The Z’s Creative Classroom offers performing arts classes to learners of all ages and abilities in a variety of mediums. It’s a safe and inviting space for all to explore their curiosity and interest in the performing arts. This year, as the theater undergoes renovations, The Z’s Creative Classroom is on the road, offering classes in locations throughout the city. To lead these classes, we’ve selected the top teachers, performers, and artists in the Southcoast.

This class is an introduction to spoken word poetry. We will learn the basics of performance poetry, explore rhyme and non rhyming forms, and create original work based on pre selected art pieces.

This class is an introduction to theatre arts and acting technique for anyone who is curious about acting and wants to give it a try! Designed to develop the ability to play dramatic action honestly and believably, course work includes games, exercises, script readings, and improvisations exploring awareness, relaxation, observation, the senses, voice, and physicality. Dress comfortably and be prepared to move at every class. Whether you've never been on stage or are just getting started, join us for this fun and informative class with professional working actors Garrett Olson and Jess Wilson of Watermelon Alligator Theatre Company!

Are you interested in learning to play an instrument, but nervous it might be too hard or too late? In this class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of playing the ukulele, one of the easiest stringed instruments to pick up. No prior musical experience is necessary. Ukuleles will be provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own.

Want to take your ukulele playing to the next level? Join Deb Sorgman for 8 weeks of musical fun expanding your ukulele playing skills. Students should have completed a beginner course and be comfortable with beginner level skills. Ukuleles will be provided, but you’re encouraged to bring your own if you have one. Please indicate if you would like to borrow a ukulele when you register.

Want to surprise people the next time you go dancing? In this class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of Cuban motion, basic steps, and figures. No prior dance experience or partner required.

Want to learn how to choreography a salsa dance? In this 8 week course we will be working on several figures and steps, with an emphasis on cuban motion, styling, musicality and easily transitioning from one figure to the next. At the end of this course participants will be able to dance and perform “our” salsa routine. Prior salsa experience IS required for this class but partners are not.
