Puns, Politics, and More Puns

TEEN AMBASSADOR:MADISON CORREIA |  OCTOBER 19, 2016

Today’s politics: scammers, liars, and fake smilers. All of these characteristics, and many others, mix together in a messy concoction of the faces of America, which make putting the “‘mock’ in democracy” almost effortless for the crew of Capitol Steps.

Filled with hysterical impersonations of today’s biggest names, the always entertaining musical number, and the wittiest of puns, Capitol Steps blends all of America’s views into a fit of laughter seamlessly. Most of the humor comes from the politicians themselves, and their most prominent quirks. While at times these enactments were a bit over exaggerated, they brought light humor to fill the mostly empty stage. The stage setup was a particularly interesting choice by the stage manager, and showed lots of trust in their actors, for all of the focus was almost always on them.

Capitol Steps began as a show by politicians, to simply poke fun at other politicians. It continues to bring light, yet deep humor to America’s current issues, and helps take the edge off of the stress of today’s wacky politics.
